Dear followers, 

EDIT: While I do love each and every one of my followers dearly and always will, there are getting to be too many of you to follow everyone back! D: I’m very sorry, but I’m going to be much more selective in who I follow back now. However, the sentiment of this letter still remains, so I’ll leave it here.

I’d like to take a moment of your time to talk about something, if you’ll let me. I see a lot of stuff on tumblr where people are trying desperately to get followers. This is usually through promotions, following back, etc. That, or people are pimping out promotions to their own followers, which I disapprove of equally (as you can see if you read this post).

Now, when it comes to me, I don’t care about trying to get followers. I don’t watch my follower count like a hawk, and I certainly don’t care about being “tumblr famous” (it’d be nice I guess, but dear god, THE NOTES! My dash would disappear forever!). No, I’ll tell you what I do care about: QUALITY, not quantity. I would rather take a handful of people who actually care about what I have to say following me, as opposed to a ridiculous number of people who are really only following me because I follow back.

That said, I do follow back, but I don’t do it to try and suck in more followers with the promise of followers of their own. I do it because I actually care who the people that are following me are. Some of you are really quite amazing, and by following you back we can share awesomeness and be excellent together. I want to get to know the people who want to get to know me, you know? Finding cool people, awesome blogs, and new friends is my ultimate goal here.

And although I don’t thank every new follower like I used to, and although most of us don’t really talk to each other, I love each and every one of you.

Now then, although I do love every single new follower with all of my love, I do have a few ground rules when it comes to following back. Don’t be intimidated, I’m just gonna warn you now so that you don’t follow me with the expectation that I will follow you back and are then disappointed.

I will most definitely NOT follow you back if…

• Your blog shows a complete disregard of spelling, grammar, and the English language as a whole. I’m not saying that you have to have perfect grammar (like me) or that you can’t have any typos, I am saying that you should at least try.
• You’re depressing. Overall, I mean. One or two moody quotes, that’s fine. I don’t care, everyone needs to be emotional occasionally. It is the constant complaining and bitching about your life and general sad aura that will make me not follow you.
• You’re an attention whore, or you pimp out promotions. I have no interest in such people.
• We have really, and I mean REALLY, different beliefs. Like if you don’t approve of gay marriage and talk about it constantly, or say that Darren Criss is ugly, I am definitely not going to follow you. Sorry.
• You don’t post anything I’m interested in. Simple as that.

That’s pretty much it as far as why I won’t follow you back. But, on the more positive side, here’s a list of reasons why I will follow you:

• We like the same stuff (and the list of stuff I like is endless so this is likely)
• You are an overall awesome person
• You post a bunch of cool stuff (fan art, pictures, fanfic, reblogs, amusing gif posts, rants about your day, I don’t even care as long as I’m amused)
• I would like to know you better

And since that last one applies to every follower I have, is that list really so unreasonable?

TL:DR - I don’t care about how many followers I have. I only care that they’re all here because they genuinely care about what I have to say, which is honestly how I think everyone should feel about their followers. I want to get to know you all, so I do follow back, but there are a few exceptions. But really, at the end of the day, I just love you guys so much
